The Best iPhone App For Low Light Photography

Friday, June 14, 2013

The iPhone camera is one of the best cameras from the all smartphones out there, but when it comes to taking pictures at low light situations then the camera can not perform as well as at day light. We can't expect a smartphone to be as good as a professional dslr but with an app called NightCap,we can achieve some interesting resullts at low light situations. At the picture bellow there is an example how the NightCap app can perform at night and as you can clearly see there is a huge difference bettwen the built-in camera app and the NightCap app.

With the NightCap app you will have much more control like white balance, exposure, iso, separate focus and exposure button and also a timer wich will be very helpful because in order to make a very good quality picture you will need to hold your iphone steady or put it in a tripod and use the timer to take the picture so that you don't move the camera and don't mess the picture. You can make very interesting pictures using the long exposure wich you can set it automaticly or manually.

I tested this app with my iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s and what i noticed is that the app performs much better with the iPhone 4s then with iPhone 4,and probably will perform much better with iPhone 5.The app is 0.99$ at the app store (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nightcap/id486414195?mt=8)

What's new in the new version:
  • Full iPhone 5 support
  • New iPhone 5 optimised interface with much improved controls
  • Supports iPhone 5 High ISO mode (boosts ISO from 800 to 3200)
  • New Burst mode (available in settings)
  • TIFF and HQ JPEG support for higher photo quality (available in settings)
  • More responsive: Exposure time is limited to 1/3s for faster handling and less blur (you can disable this in the settings if you prefer the full 1 second exposure time)
  • Photo sharing: Share via email, twitter or facebook
  • Photo printing
  • Easily open photos in your favourite editing app
  • Full iOS 6 support
  • Many fixes and improvements

Here are some examples taken with the built-in camera app and the NightCap app:
